Nicole Kidman , Keith Urban and their adorable daughter Sunday Rose landed in Sydney today, and looked very happy to return to Nicole’s home country. The couple was all smiles and little Sunday is getting so big! The family’s trip to Australia explains why Nicole was absent at last night’s Academy Awards. Her usual knockout fashion choices was definitely missed on the Oscars stage. Wonder what brings the trio Down Under?

Every film & fashion loving eye will fall upon The Kodak Theater on March 7, when the 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be handed out. But before we learn if James Cameron is still “king of the world,” there will be a runway-worthy run-up to the big show, centered around the world’s biggest stars parading about in what they believe to be that day’s best dress. Sometimes they’re right on the money — like Gwyneth Paltrow in 1999, left, while other times they simply need to change — for Paltrow, right, in 2002. For many actresses, this isn’t their first trip to the annual fashion-fest — so let’s look back at the year each lady claimed best dressed accolades and the year they ended up on everyone’s worst dressed list! Best Angelina Jolie in 2004 Worst Angelina Jolie in 2000 Best Charlize Theron in 2000.

The History of the Red Carpet!

Forget about the movies: At Oscar time, in homes across America, armchair fashion critics give thumbs up or thumbs down to the clothes worn on the red carpet or on stage as presenters and awardees glam it up. But for everyone who looked at Björk in 2001 and thought “taxidermist,” someone else thought “avant-garde.” For everyone who thought Edith Head dressed Grace Kelly like a princess in 1955’s ice blue satin, someone else thought “ice queen.” Face it: No matter how many worst and best lists there are, we’re never going to agree about who looked fab or drab. But we can agree to remain spellbound by the clothes, and the reasons why, since the inception of the Academy Awards in 1929, stars have looked ravishing — or not. How did they make their choices? It’s a process far more involved than just spinning around, pointing a finger at a gown, and crying “Voilà!” Each choice has a reason — and, often — a fascinating story
