Deathly Hallows footage screened at the ShoWest Film Festival

A bunch of lucky muggles got the chance to see around 7 minutes of footage from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the ShoWest Film Festival yesterday. Thankfully it didn’t blow their mains too much, and we have a number of descriptions online to give us an idea of what was shown. Some of the footage was apparently unfinished so it didn’t look as good as it could have, but it seems people enjoyed it nonetheless. First up we have a Twitter reaction from FirstShowing : Yep, just saw the Quiddich arena burning down and Harry flying with Hagrid on his motorcycle – footage from Deathly Hallows. Looks AWESOME! I got chills seeing footage of Voldemort in Deathly Hallows without CG, just Ralph Fiennes with makeup & dots on his face. So frickin’ cool! We saw a lot of him.

Ellen Page To Star In Michel Gondry-Directed Time Travel Movie

Director Michel Gondry is down at South By Southwest right now promoting his documentary “The Thorn in His Heart,” which offers a highly personal look at his family. MTV’s Josh Horowitz snagged a few minutes to chat with him, and he asked if Gondry would like to follow up “The Green Hornet” with something similarly epic in its scale. “I’d like to do a movie of this size with my own story, which would be quite amazing. But we’ll see,” he said. “I’m developing a screenplay with a writer right now about kids who travel [into] the future by mistake and a machine [that] keeps people younger… ehhh, it’s complicated to explain.” Gondry has long been working on an adaptation of Rudy Rucker’s 1984 sci-fi novel “The Master of Space and Time.” He told The Playlist this past weekend that the project is finished, but he’s working on something “similar.” He also said that he’ll be collaborating with “Ghost World” graphic novelist Daniel Clowes on said similar project, but he gave Josh a different name for his collaborator — Keith Bunin, who’s written for HBO’s series “In Treatment,” is what it sounds like — on the above-mentioned time travel flick.

If they remade "The Wizard of Oz," would YOU watch it?

It appears Dorothy Gale is, once again, not going to be in Kansas any more. With the “Harry Potter” franchise winding down, Warner Brothers has set their sights on building another franchise geared toward young adults based on one of the most popular films of all time, “The Wizard of Oz.” Warner Brothers has had two separate projects in development over the past year centered around wide-eyed Dorothy Gale from Kansas — a role made iconic by Judy Garland in 1939 — who finds herself swept off (literally) to a magical land full of eccentric creatures called Oz. The box-office take of”Alice in Wonderland” — $133 million domestically, and counting — makes this project seem even more attractive. Warner Brothers’ New Line division has a version of the film written by Darren Lemke — who helped write “Shrek Forever After” — and produced by “Twilight” producer Temple Hill.(It’s only fitting that “Twilight” would somehow be connected to a potential teen hit.) This version would not have any musical numbers and would be more faithful to “Oz” author L. Frank Baum’s source material.
