Back in 1989, MTV gave out its first Video Music Award for Best Dance Video, and the honor went to Paula Abdul for “Straight Up.” That clip definitely had some fancy moves but we think the appearance from then-boyfriend Arsenio Hall really pushed it over the edge. (Kidding … sorta.) Needless to say, dancing in music videos has come a long way since then. Allow us to bestow upon you a list of our Top 5 favorite videos featuring killer-dance sequences. 1) Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”: Paula, you’re forever our girl but we’ve gotta give credit where credit is due: We wouldn’t dare mention the words “music video dance sequence” without giving well-deserved props to The King of Pop for basically inventing the genre — especially in his groundbreaking “Thriller” clip

Bret Michaels has emerged as the new favourite to replace Simon Cowell as an American Idol judge after his triumphant performance on the live finale of the talent show on Wednesday night. The Poison singer ignored his doctors’ advice and took to the Idol stage for a duet with finalist Casey James. The ailing rocker, who is still recovering from a near-fatal brain haemorrhage and a recent stroke, was an instant hit with fans, who gave him a standing ovation as he walked out to sing a rendition of Poison’s Every Rose Has Its Thorn

Christina Aguilera loves wearing latex even though it gives her an itchy rash. The singer – whose new single ‘Not Myself Tonight’ shows the pop star in a number of racy and provocative outfits – admitted shooting the video for the raunchy song was “torture” because of the tight latex clothing. She said: “For my video shoot I didn’t go to bed until five in the morning… in the freezing rain, in the cold, wearing a two-piece red latex outfit. Torture! I got nauseous with exhaustion from the video shoot

What Went Wrong On ‘American Idol,’ And How To Save It Next Year

May 26, 2010 by admin
Filed under Journal, desperate housewives, fashion

This week, Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox head to L.A.’s Nokia Theater for what is likely to be the most anti-climactic and least-watched “American Idol” finale ever, capping off a season that some (and by “some,” I mean me) would argue was the worst season in “Idol” history. However, despite the imminent departure of Simon Cowell and the overall lukewarm reception to Season 9, “Idol” will in fact be back for a 10th season in 2011, albeit with some programming changes. Auditions won’t start up until this September (presumably so producers can search for a permanent Simon replacement); the Tuesday one-hour competitive shows will be extended to 90 minutes (presumably so the judges’ critiques won’t be frustratingly cut short); and the usually filler-filled Wednesday results shows will go back to being a cut-to-the-chase 30 minutes instead of an unnecessarily dragged-out hour. These are all good developments. But “Idol” is a going to have to do a lot more than tweak episode length to ensure Season 10 is an improvement over Season 9.
