NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Ever wonder why Slash wears a top hat? If the British guitarist is to be believed, it’s because he’s shy. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the Velvet Revolver co-founder said of his trademark hat, “You can pull it down, pull your hair down over your face and just sort of hide behind that.” “I’ve always been a little nervous in front of crowds,” he added, “and that made it – made me – feel a lot more comfortable.” The former lead guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, Slash told the AP he has always been partial to hats but the top hat dates back to 1985 when he was touring with Guns N’ Roses. “I went into this in store on Melrose (Place) in Los Angeles and saw a top hat, and was like, ‘Oh that’s looks cool.’ And we had a show that night,” he said, “so I was definitely looking for something to wear for the show that evening.” He said he managed to “nick” the hat and he decorated it with pieces cut from a conch belt he had stolen from a store next door. And – voila! “I wore it for that show and it just became the hat I felt really cool in.” source.

Jeremy Renner near deal to join Marvel’s ‘Avengers’

Jeremy Renner is in final negotiations to join “The Avengers,” Marvel Studios’ big-screen take on its superhero team that’s being directed by Joss Whedon. Renner will play the bow-and-arrow-carrying hero Hawkeye, who, while not one of the initial members of the team when it was created in the 1960s, became an integral member soon after when the misguided villain switched sides. Renner will join Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle as War Machine.

Kelly Rowland, who worked with Guetta on much of her forthcoming, yet-untitled solo album, said she has all the aforementioned artists to thank for the sound on her project. “We have wonderful artists to thank, like Gaga, who have opened up the doors and just really made it start to be a thing,” the former Destiny’s Child member told MTV New s when she stopped by the offices on Wednesday (May 26). But the credit doesn’t just go to Gaga: “With David and the Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.Am, we have them to thank,” Rowland added.
