Pop icons Bono and Prince may share an unerring gift for crafting hits, but when it comes to keeping that money through financial savvy, it seems they still haven’t found what they’re looking for. While U2’s frontman is celebrated for his charitable work in Africa and bipartisan approach to political issues. Bono is one of five members of Elevation Partners’ investment team, which 24/7 Wall Street claims has made “an unprecedented string of disastrous investments which even bad luck could not explain.” The U2 singer’s firm has invested huge amounts of money into Palm smartphones, Forbes magazine, and Move.com, all of which are currently struggling. Elevation’s largest investment is also its most disastrous: Bono’s firm put $460 million into Palm, the company that unsuccessfully tried to carve a piece of the smartphone market away from Apple, RIM, and other more popular mobile handset-makers. Last September, Palm’s shares sold for $18, but when the company released its most recent earnings figures, shares plummeted to $3.65.

Ellen Page To Star In Michel Gondry-Directed Time Travel Movie
Director Michel Gondry is down at South By Southwest right now promoting his documentary “The Thorn in His Heart,” which offers a highly personal look at his family. MTV’s Josh Horowitz snagged a few minutes to chat with him, and he asked if Gondry would like to follow up “The Green Hornet” with something similarly epic in its scale. “I’d like to do a movie of this size with my own story, which would be quite amazing. But we’ll see,” he said. “I’m developing a screenplay with a writer right now about kids who travel [into] the future by mistake and a machine [that] keeps people younger… ehhh, it’s complicated to explain.” Gondry has long been working on an adaptation of Rudy Rucker’s 1984 sci-fi novel “The Master of Space and Time.” He told The Playlist this past weekend that the project is finished, but he’s working on something “similar.” He also said that he’ll be collaborating with “Ghost World” graphic novelist Daniel Clowes on said similar project, but he gave Josh a different name for his collaborator — Keith Bunin, who’s written for HBO’s series “In Treatment,” is what it sounds like — on the above-mentioned time travel flick.

Idina Menzel starts filming with Glee
“Glee” has wasted no time in getting Idina Menzel into the thick of the action. The Tony Award winner has joined the show’s cast for the rest of the season, and co-creator Brad Falchuk says she fit right in when she showed up on set earlier this month. “I already directed her in the first episode,” Falchuk said earlier this week during a visit to the “Glee” set. “She did two small scenes with Matt [Morrison], so we’ve started kind of easing her into it. She was great. I don’t come from a musical background so I wasn’t that familiar with her
